The Boardroom Show

Several club members attended the Boardroom Show (formerly called Sacred Craft) at the Kaiser Permanente Arena on October 9-10, 2016 to check out the shapers, boards, and everything else surf. The show featured board shaping demonstrations/competitions among local well-known shapers and honored John Mel, longtime Santa Cruz shaper and founding member of SCLU. Our own Matt Micuda gave a board taping demonstration and made it look a lot easier than it is. We talked Jeff Clark into loaning the club what we nicknamed “The Fin” (which is apparently actually called the Quantum Fin). The Big Chill Out 2016

Although it wasn’t a coalition event, SCLU was well represented in the heats and at the awards ceremony at last October’s Big Chill Out sponsored by Pedro Point Surf Club at Pacifica State Beach.

Johnny Rice Surfboards Ad

At the October 2016 club meeting, Don Iglesias shared that he had found a cool old ad for Johnny Rice Surfboards featuring a great photo of Rosemari from her 1953-54 school year at Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach. He made copies of the ad on card stock and passed them around as mementos, and kudos went out to Rosemary for her years of breaking barriers in the surfing world.
